Hey guys,

Got some good things to share:

First of all, I’ve reached 200 subscribers on youtube yesterday. Not a huge deal compared to others, but it’s progress. Thank you so much guys.

I did some maff, it took nearly 3 years to get to 100 subscribers, then another 8 months to get to 200 — I really hope the exponential rate continues…

Next bit of good news, I’ve got your priority access link to my new cover of “What I Got” by Sublime here: https://youtu.be/3ynQ-Bw24U0

I’m pretty sure the first time I heard this song was from playing a Dave Mirra’s Freestyle BMX demo disc on the original Playstation. (I really hope at least one of you can relate, remember playing as the Slim Jim guy?)

Last thing, I went ahead and wasted a Saturday to use a new video editing software to make a lyric video for the song, “Vibe With You”

I spent a considerable amount of time simply learning the basics, watching videos, and matching up the words with the music…

Everything synced up, it looked great, and sounded great.

And just my luck, I couldn’t render the video. In other words, the process of turning the project video into a downloadable video was fucked.

I did some googling to troubleshoot and finally found a working solution!

The video was complete.

And here, I’d like to share the final product with all of you:

Vibe With You Lyric Video.mp4

Salud,

Dylan

Rex Orange County – Uno Cover, Chords, and Lyrics

Baritone ukulele cover of Uno by Rex Orange County.

Chords and Lyrics

Chords: || E | f#7 | g#7 | f#7 – B7 :|| Repeat

Yeah, I don’t know where to start
How do you admit that you’re falling apart?
I mean, how will I admit that I’m falling apart?
My mother’s gonna worry but I’m fine in my heart
I’ve lived the words that I’ve said
And I live with a voice that tends to tell me that I’m shit in my head
And well, maybe I should fuck it and be happy instead
I should just say, “Fuck it, ” and be happy instead, right?
Right
‘Cause there’s a lot of people tryna tell me how to deal with myself
But I’m not gonna listen if you mention my health
I don’t care, don’t tell me and don’t text me
‘Cause that kind of shit upsets me, just kind of affects me
And it’s bringing me down, and I’m not gonna lie
These days, I prefer to just not be outside
And these days, I just end up spendin’ all of my time
With my girlfriend, but to be honest, I think that’s alright
‘Cause time keeps rollin’ and I’m just makin’ songs
I’m doing my best
Still find myself stressed
And I’m no longer sure where I belong
I’m starting to rust
Don’t know who to trust

Chords: || A | G# | c#m | E :|| Repeat til end

Some people concentrate on style too much
But I think I just force myself to smile too much
And that should soon end for the best
I wanna live my life with no stress
Love life and feel blessed, like
It’s kind of funny on the inside
I’m tryna be a man, but really I’m just a little child, shit
And that’s pretty much it
Yeah that’s pretty much it
(Is there anything else?)
Oh yeah
My jaw hurts a lot because I grind it with stress (mhm?)
I was an idiot recently and lost a lot of my friends (naw)
Nothing brings me joy and nothing makes me smile
Being at school makes me aware of how I haven’t been myself in awhile (oh)
And I wonder what it was like to be eleven?
Wonder if there’s such a thing as life after death, such a thing as heaven? (Why?)
And every now and then I think about the fact that I’d become a legend if I died at 27

Hello Ladies and Germs,

It’s about that time…

I got a new cover for you by one of my favorite new artists, Rex Naranja County.

Or as the Vietnamese might say, Rex Quận Cam.

For those of you who don’t know, Rex here isn’t really from Orange County. No. He’s actually from some old town in England.

His real name is Alex O’Connor. So he sort of turned Alex into “Rex” and used the initials of his last name (O.C.) to “Orange County”.

In short, I pretty much love all of his music.

In fact, I’ve already covered 10 of his songs. You can hear them all here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5Y5nhLHgHw&list=PL4ejXeiFsSidgWPTQJC0fAt1ZbGxhe6W2

And now, here’s your exclusive first-look to my new cover of “Uno”: https://youtu.be/43XFhoV2BAY

I think this one turned out pretty good, even though I mest up summa the werds.

Enjoy,

Dilly Bar

P.S. New original is written, and I’ll be recording it this weekend!

Aloe,

Hope you had a spooky, socially-distanced Halloween!

Which is weird.

How did trick-or-treating work? Just throwing candy at kids? That actually doesn’t sound bad.

Speaking of bad…

Just wanna give you the first-look, before anyone else, at my new cover of Ba(d)sket Case by Green Day here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKw97ffilpg

Quick shtory:

Not too long ago, my friend Rocky and I were busking in the streets of Sandy Eggo — sorry, I meant San Diego. Which, according to Ron Burgundy, is Spanish for “A Whale’s Va–” (Stop being stupid, Dylan)

Moving on,

After playing for a while, there was a Scottish couple sitting nearby, and the man asked (with a thick Scottish accent) if I knew any “guh deen day.”

Me: “Sorry I’ve never heard of them, guh-deen-day?”

Him: “You’ve never heard of G’deen day?”

Me: “No”

Then it hit me.

Me: “Ohhhh, Green Day! Yeah I know them, but I can’t play any of their songs.”

Until now.

Enjoy,

Dylan

P.S. RIP Sean Connery, it might be too soon but, “What time does Sean Connery go to Wimbledon?”

“Ten-ish”

Hope you get that one.

If you’re a fan of South Park, you may be familiar with an episode where the students of South Park Elementary had to vote between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich to be the school’s new mascot.

It started out as a joke, with Kyle and Cartman trying to come up with the funniest thing they could think of…

Then it turned into an all-out war, with Kyle doubling down on his support for Giant Douche, and the same with Cartman for Turd Sandwich.

They rallied the other students to pick a side and lean hard to vote in the upcoming mascot election.

Meanwhile, Stan was opposed to either candidate, and didn’t want to participate just because “you’re supposed to.”.

“What’s the point?” he thought, and was told, “an election is always between the giant douche and a turd sandwich, because they’re the only people who suck up enough to make it that far in politics.”

With everyone waiting for him, he finally voted — Giant Douche won in a landslide, like 1,000 to 36.

===

Just wanted to share something relevant as I’m not politically inclined — on a count of muh public school edumacation and reading from second-hand books.

Typical American…

Speaking of America, which has a flag…

And the flag has… anybody? Anybody? (Bueller?)

White stripes!

Yesss, the newest cover is: Fell In Love With a Girl by The White Stripes

Let’s take a look at something:

It’s 2004,

You come home from school, backpack heavy and folded Razor-scooter in hand.

You carelessly throw them in the closet and head straight to the fridge.

Then, you grab a Capri Sun — Pacific Cooler — and a pack of Little Debbie Nutty Bars from the freezer.

You sit down in the living room, with the big, 32-inch tube TV.

Grab the greasy remote, turn on the TV, change the channel.

Right on time.

TRL with Carson Daily is on, and they’re about to play number 7: Roses by OutKast.

Life is…

===

That was more or less my daily ritual during my formative years.

No wonder I got so fat…

Do you ever think it’s weird when you still like the same songs as when you were a kid?

I remember two of my first CD’s were: Sum 41’s All Killer No Filler and System Of A Down’s Toxicity.

I still go back to those albums every once in a while.

And I can still sing practically every word of Fat Lip and Chop Suey.

To me, they’re still good. Quality doesn’t age.

Unlike me…

Now, get your special, priority access, first-look at my new cover here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pl_3jJ1P2EU

Feel free to leave a like or comment or show it to someone you hate named, “Caroline”.

Cheerios,

Dylan

P.S. After this email, I’m going to start emailing from a broadcast using my new address: dylan@dylansantiagomusic.com

Just a heads up to keep an eye out, and you can add the email now to your contacts to prevent it from ever going into the spam folder.

Thanks.

Hey,

So you may have heard about the famous rapper/producer/designer/entrepreneur Kanye West running for Presidential Election for 2020.

Of course, we know the result.

Not like he really had a chance of winning…

However, he went ahead to do a three hour interview on Joe Rogan’s podcast before the election.

As a fan of his music and his overall craziness, I was listening to every word.

Sure, I didn’t take it as gospel but, for lack of a better word, I found it quite enticing.

Kanye sort of just went off and showed everyone his unfiltered thought process.

I was looking for a specific quote, but google wasn’t very helpful — lots of people attacking and criticizing his soundbites.

When asked what he would do about the national budget crisis, he replied something along the lines of:

(Paraphrasing from memory)

“I would get all the information I need, and consider all the options before making the best decision.”

It sounded better the way he said it.

Sure, you can say that’s common sense, but I thought it was a very reasonable statement for the “I win you lose” culture of politics.

Now, here’s an actual quote I found:

“I just tell the truth. And telling the truth is crazy in a world full of lies.”

Real eyes realize real lies.

Anyway, I just wanted to share a bit about the artist before I sent you your priority access, first look at my new video.

It’s not your typical ukulele cover song…

Ultralight Beam by Kanye West: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQBYvd_ig3U

Also, I have trouble updating my email with the new broadcast software (I hate technology). But hopefully I’ll be able to start sending these updates directly to you with my new email: dylan@dylansantiagomusic.com — and hopefully it doesn’t go straight to your spam folder, more on that later…

Feel free to like and leave a comment.

Cheers,

Dylan

Email Sent Nov 25th, 2020:

One time,

I went to a record store in a hipster area of Orange County where rich suburban kids like to buy vinyls because apparently “that’s how music is supposed to sound.”

I’m not disagreeing, and I can see how the ritual of changing records and dropping the needle feels better than just pressing play on an expensive rectangle…

But it all sounds the same to me…

Hell, for months now I’ve been listening to and recording music with cheap earbuds — and only the right side works.

Sure, I may be cheap, but I’m mostly lazy…

And quite frankly, I don’t really care.

Anyway,

I discovered a bargain bin (because I’m cheap) out front with a bunch of used cd’s that were $1 each.

While most of them were complete crap, I managed to prospect a few gems:

  • Limp Bizkit’s Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water for nostalgic reasons.
  • Eminem’s The Eminem Show because I lost my last one and it’s quite possibly one of my favorite albums of all time.
  • And The Grateful Dead’s Greatest Hits because the cover looked cool and the The Grateful Dead is one of those famous bands that I always heard about but never took the chance to really listen.

I loved it, and while I’m not a “Dead Head”, I really dig some of their songs — especially the one I’m about to show you.

Here’s your priority access, first look at my new cover of Uncle John’s Band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I3820HR-IQ

I really love this song, it’s beautiful, but I don’t know a lot of people who know it.

If you’d like, check out the original here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSIajKGHZRk

I also learned from the movie The Music Never Stopped, (great movie btw) that this song got some flak from mainstream radio because of the overtly controversial lyric, “goddamn”.

Ooh ooh, the movie was also based on a true story from a really good book titled An Anthropologist on Mars by Oliver Sacks. Great Read.

Alright, I’ll quit nerding out on you guys…

Feel free to leave a like or comment.

Thanks,

The Grateful Dylan

Let me tell you 'bout a girl I know
Had a drink about an hour ago
Am
Sitting in a corner by herself
B C B
In a bar in downtown hell
Em
She heard a noise and she looked to the door
And saw a man she'd never seen before
Am
Light skin, light blue eyes
B C B
A double chin and a plastic smile
Em
Her heart raced as he walked through the door
And took an empty seat next to her at the bar
B
'My brand new car is parked right outside
Am
How'd you like to go for a ride?' And she said
Em
'Wait a minute, I have to think'
He said 'That's fine, may I please buy you a drink?'
B
One drink turned into 3 or 4
         C B Em
And they left and got into his car
         C B Em
And they drove away some place real far
Em
Now babe, the time has come
How'd you like to have a little fun? And she said
B C G
'If we could only please be on our way,
            D B
I would not run'
Em
That's when things got out of control
Em C B
She didn't want to
Em C B
He had his way
Em C B
She said let's go
Em C B
He said no way
B C B
Come on babe, it's your lucky day
B C B
Shut your mouth, we're gonna do it my way
B C B
Come on baby, don't be afraid
B
If it wasn't for date rape, I'd never get laid

She picked up a rock.

One night in jail, it was getting late
He was butt-raped by a large inmate

Sorry, I sent the first email prematurely…
(I just learned that pressing “tab” then “enter” in an email doesn’t indent and make a list, it sends the email)
Ole,
Many of you already know that I don’t choose to play songs based on their popularity.
I strictly play songs that I love to listen to and can’t help but to learn and play.
If you’re a fan of Sublime, then you’ve probably heard this song before…
It’s a song that’s hard to find unless you’re specifically looking for it…
That’s because google and youtube WILL NOT autocomplete your search (probably for good reasons).
In fact, I’ve had friends who REFUSED to listen to it because of its title, Date Rape.
But look, it’s not as bad as you think…
It’s about a girl who gets revenge on a guy who… you know. Then the guy went to jail and got… you know.
Ok, maybe it is kinda bad…
But the lyrics are sincerely well done, and the music is so good that you just get caught up in the vibe and you’ll want to listen twice: once to enjoy, and again to pay attention.
And it’s just a really good song.
Listen at your own risk…
Get your priority-access, first look with this link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC4wndhkbto
Enjoy or not, I still appreciate you guys.
2 more things:
1. I’m currently working on an updated version of The KL EP with harmonies and,2. A cover collaboration with my Russian friend, Viktor.
Things will start popping up soon.
Cheers,
Dylan

For the uninitiated,
I am a huge fan of Sublime, and I’m slowly trying to cover as many of their songs as possible. They have so many incredible songs that I’ll probably finish by the time I’m 64…
Which is insane when you realize that the lead singer, Bradley Nowell, died at age 28.
Now, I’m not gonna turn to heroin for inspiration (yet), but I would kill for an ounce of his talent, intuition, and musicianship.
Here’s your priority access, first-look at my new cover, Prophet by Sublime:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3T11wElJXaQ

Actually, this isn’t a Sublime original — it’s originally done by Slightly Stoopid, another SoCal band that worked closely with Sublime.
Fun fact: Sublime mostly covered and sampled other artists’ music — a lot of these artists were small time punk, reggae, and ska bands that heavily influenced Bradley.
That’s why I find in art, you don’t have to be original, you just have to be good.
Unfortunately I’m neither…
Cheers,
Dylan
P.S. I got a nice little message from the artist I covered the other day:
“you murdered this bro🧡🧡🧡” – Keni Can Fly
